May General Membership

Meeting Report

The speaker at the May General Membership Meeting was Dr. Charlie N. Flagg of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at SUNY Stony Brook. Dr. Flagg gave an enlightening talk about the effects the Old Inlet Breach has had on the water in the Great South Bay and the Narrows Bay. He also discussed the dynamics of the breach.

We were also introduced to State Senator Tom Croci's Assistant Director of Operations, Jen Freeman. Bill Doyle gave a quick report for Congressman Lee Zeldin. Assemblyman Dean Murray also said a few words.

The 50/50 was won by Gwen Fazzina.

June General Membership Meeting

The June General Membership Meeting will be on Thursday June 4 at 7:30pm

Memorial Day Parade Report

Monday May 25 was Memorial Day. We thank the Arthur M. Clune American Legion Post #1533 for inviting the MBPOA to participate in their wonderful parade. The MBPOA entered two floats, which were decorated by Team Getchell and pulled by Vice President Michael Kobasiuk. The MBPOA also included a military styled jeep driven by member Joe Kelly and an antique 1947 Nash Rambler driven by member Jim Searfoss. We would also like to thank all our members who came down to march with us or watched us march along the parade route.

Great Brookhaven Cleanup Report

The Town of Brookhaven held their Great Brookhaven Cleanup this year on Saturday May 16. This is when the Town of Brookhaven sponsors volunteer groups to cleanup public lands in Brookhaven Town. The MBPOA volunteered this year to clean up the corner of William Floyd Parkway and Havenwood Road and Bayview Park on Bayview Drive. We would like to thank the following volunteers for coming out in the drizzle and getting it done. Peter W., Michael Kobasiuk, Catherine Kobasiuk, Jean SanMartin, Maureen Getchell, Shawn Getchell, Arik Getchell, Nora Getchell, Bruce Summa, Bill Hack, Michelle Wilkinson and Braydon Wilkinson.

Marina News

Please remember and tell your friends and neighbors that Marina 5 is closed. This includes the ramp. Someone has removed the chain and closed signs from the ramp but that does not mean it is permissible to use the ramp. Anyone found using the ramp at Marina #5 will be fined and their membership will be denied next year. This is a safety issue and not up for negotiation. The MBPOA will not be held responsible for loss of life or property. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse.

The MBPOA would like to thank Director Eddie Jenssen for spearheading the line painting for the trailer parking at the Marina. Eddie didn't let anything discourage him or slow him down. Thanks also to anyone who came down to help Eddie.

For those not familiar with the ramp at the MBPOA Marina, please ask the guard to point out the line which indicates how far in to put your trailer. It should be an orange line on the ramp. We will be working on repainting that line soon also.
Reminders of best practices for using the MBPOA Marina are as follows: Carry-In/Carry-Out: no garbage should be left anywhere on the marina property. Please take all of your trash with you. No fileting or cleaning of fish in the marina and no dumping of bait, or fish waste into the marina. No discharging of sewage into the marina water. A Brookhaven Town pump out boat can be arranged on VHF Channel 73 or go to the Brookhaven Town Marina at Forge River to use the pump out there.

Please remember that the area between the entrance buoy and the marina is a no wake area when entering or leaving the marina. Please be considerate of your marina neighbors and the beach area to the east of the marina. The MBPOA wishes everyone a safe boating season.

Tri-Hamlet Day

Don't forget that Saturday June 6 is TriHamlet Day on the Mastic Peninsula. The MBPOA will be set up in our parking lot and we hope everyone will stop by.

MBPOA Yard Sale Report

The Third Annual MBPOA Yard Sale was on Saturday May 30. There was lovely weather for yard sale enthusiasts and quite a few yard sales in Mastic Beach that day. Our yard sale saw a lot of interested buyers all day and all of our vendors made a profit. The MBPOA donation table also did quite well and Big Brothers Big Sisters was right on time for the pickup at the end so nothing unwanted was taken home. Consider renting a space next year to help with your spring cleaning.

Country Dancing

Dancing will be held on June 5 and June 19 this month. Admission is $8 for MBPOA members and $10 for guests. There is a 50/50 raffle, complimentary coffee and cake and a cash bar. No outside beverages please.

Paint Nite Report

On Friday May 22 the MBPOA hosted a Paint Nite. This is when a group of art instructors come in and walk a group through how to paint a specific picture. There were over 100 attendees. The members at the bar that night were able to witness the whole process.

Fridays Nights

Friday nights are Meet & Greet at the MBPOA Clubhouse Bar. Members and their guests are invited to stop by for a drink (alcoholic or not) and a chat. Nights that are not Country Dancing nights sometimes become karaoke nights.
