The April General Membership meeting
was incredibly informative thanks to our guest speaker Brookhaven
Town Councilman Dan Panico. Mr. Panico is always very patient and
thorough when discussing all of our concerns. Our new Village Mayor
Maura Spery was there to keep us in the loop concerning Village of
Mastic Beach issues. We were also able to discuss some of the
upcoming MBPOA events for the spring and summer. The 50/50 was won
by Gwen Fazzina.
May General Membership Meeting
The May General Membership Meeting is
on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 7:30 pm at the MBPOA clubhouse at 31
Neighborhood Road. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Charlie N. Flagg of
the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at SUNY Stony Brook.
All are welcome, please feel free to bring a friend.
Clubhouse Flags
Thank you to Director Dan Carr and past
Director Victor Viola for arranging to have the Mastic Beach Fire
Department rehang our flags in front of the clubhouse. The flags
were victims of the weather this past winter.

With One Brush Stroke
Charity Art Auction
The Mastic Beach Property
Owners Association hosted the Fourth Annual Artists United to Help
Hospice House fund raising event on Sunday April 19. It was a lovely
event with wine, nibbles, and pleasing music to accompany the
wonderful art by local artists.
Ten original pieces of art were auctioned off to help the 'Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk Inc.' making to total funds raised to a little over $1,500. The MBPOA and Artists' United would like to thank everyone who came down and supported this worthwhile cause.

The acoustic music night
that was held on Friday April 10 was a great success. We would like
to thank Tom Brady and his friends for setting everything up. Thanks
to anyone else who came by to play. The music was enjoyed by
everyone and we got to see many of our Mastic Beach neighbors.
Dancing will be held on
May 1 and May 15 this month. Admission is $8 for MBPOA members and
$10 for guests. There is a 50/50 raffle, complimentary coffee and
cake and a cash bar. No outside beverages please.
Fridays Nights
Friday nights are Meet &
Greet at the MBPOA Clubhouse Bar. Members and their guests are
invited to stop by for a drink (alcoholic or not) and a chat. Nights
that are not Country Dancing nights sometimes become karaoke nights.
On Friday May 22 we will
be trying something different. We have arranged for the popular
Paint Nite to set up in the MBPOA hall for the evening. Participants
are taught how to paint a picture while they drink and socialize.
Tickets have to be bought online before the event and by the looks of things will be sold out before this printing. The bar will be open for our members as per usual and we will get to see how the latest recreation craze is done. You can see the Paint Nite website at : http://www.paintnite.com/

Great Brookhaven Cleanup
The MBPOA has volunteered to clean the corner of
Havenwood Drive and William Floyd Parkway. We will meet in the
morning on May 16. Dress appropriately.
Marina News
The poles have been reset
including one pole which had to be replace totally. It was
interesting watching Randy Penny do the work.
Thanks go out to Chris
Zarcone, Traci and Joe Kelly and Michael Kobasiuk for braving the
last big frozen day to measure the spaces between the poles.
Reminders of best
practices for using the MBPOA Marina are as follows:
Carry-In/Carry-Out: no garbage should be left anywhere on the marina
property. Please take all of your trash with you. No fileting or
cleaning of fish in the marina and no dumping of bait, or fish waste
into the marina. No discharging of sewage into the marina water. A
Brookhaven Town pump out boat can be arranged on VHF Channel 73 or go
to the Forge River Town Marina to use the pump out there.
Please remember that the
area between the entrance buoy and the marina is a no wake area when
entering or leaving the marina. Please be considerate of your marina
neighbors and the beach area to the east of the marina. The MBPOA
wishes everyone a safe boating season.
MBPOA Yard Sale
The Third Annual MBPOA
Yard Sale will be on May 30 in the MBPOA Clubhouse parking lot. If
you would like to rent a table for $20/member or $25/nonmember,
please call 399-6111. Big Brothers and Big Sisters will be by at the
end of the day to take away anything not going home with you. The
sale is from 9am to 3pm. No Early Birds Please. Please see the
included flier and application in this months newsletter.
Tri-Hamlet Day
Don't forget that Saturday
June 6 is TriHamlet Day on the Mastic Peninsula. The MBPOA will be
set up in our parking lot and we hope everyone will stop by.
MBPOA Marina Cleanup
An expansive cleanup
was performed on Saturday April 25 at the MBPOA Marina. The beach
was cleaned of garbage and winter debris. Garbage was picked up all
around, and the slip numbers were assessed. Boardwalk boards were
replaced and secured. The parking lot was leveled on the east and
west side to remove the ruts left over from the winter.
The electrical system was checked and so was the water system. The water system suffered winter damage and will need to be repaired before it can be used.

Volunteer Work
If anyone has high school or middle
school students in need of volunteer hours have them contact
President Catherine Kobasiuk at 879-2881. There is usually light
office work to do once or twice a month. When the spring cleaning
season hits we will have outside work to do also.
Brookhaven 360th Birthday
While attending the celebration for the
360 Birthday of Brookhaven Town we were able to see an old planning
map from 1937. It is interesting to see how things were viewed for
our area back in 1937.
