General Meeting
The
July 10 General Meeting was presided over by President Jean San
Martin. Kerri Roseilia the director of the Community library was our
guest speaker. Kerri spoke about many of the services that the
library offers and how the library is now offering many digital
services. She mentioned that the library is well utilized and
she also spoke about many of the exciting upcoming building upgrades.

Kerri also invited everybody to participate, sponsor or volunteer for the Library's upcoming 5K run at Smith Point on September 6. The proceeds of this run goes to the Literacy program. Information can be found at the library or on the web at 5kbridgerun.communitylibrary.org

with our usual business the following nominations and proposals were
presented.
The
Nominating Committee headed by Vic Viola reread their selections of
officer and director nominations for the next elections. The 2014
nominations put forward by the Nominating Committee are as follows:

Director Maureen Getchell reread her suggested by-laws changes.
Note:
The current Board of Directors consists of 12 members, not 20. As the Board of Directors retire no other shall be appointed until we reach 12 directors.
The following changes were proposed:
Sec. 6 (First Paragraph)
The Board of Directors shall consist of all Elected Officers of the Association except the Sargent-At-Arms and in addition, the twenty [20] Directors elected from the membership.

Only owners of real property in Mastic Beach postal zone 11951 shall be eligible for membership. Where a parcel of property is owned by two or more individuals, each owner may be eligible for membership and pay individual membership fees. An initiation fee of Fifteen ($15.00) dollars will be charged each new member.

The
MBPOA annual Music
By the Bay was
a wonderful night. “Somethin'
Fresh”
had the crowd of over 400 dancing not only in their seats but up in
front of the stage. The weather was perfect with a light steady
breeze which kept the mosquito's away. Michelle Wilkinson would like

Rental News
According
to Director Michelle Wilkinson all Saturdays and Sundays in August
have been rented. All Saturdays in September have been rented also.

Fridays
Nights
Friday
nights are Meet & Greet at the MBPOA Clubhouse Bar. Members and
their guests are invited to stop by for a drink (alcoholic or not)
and a chat.
Country
Dancing
There
will be no country dancing on August 1. The only dance this month
will be on August 15. Admission is $8 for MBPOA members and $10 for
guests. There is a 50/50 raffle, complimentary coffee and cake and a
cash bar. No outside beverages please.
Marina
News
Important
news for Marina users, boat slip renters and their guests.
We
will be having our Blue Claw Crab Fest on August 24 at Marina 1 and
will be preparing the area during the week before. There is
absolutely no over night parking on the east side of Marina 1 from
Friday August 22 thru Sunday August 24. Regular parking will resume
after everything is cleaned up after the Blue Claw
Crab Fest. The Marina 1 Ramp will be closed on Sunday August 24. Please use the Marina 5 Ramp at the end of Huntington Drive for the day. Please obey all posted parking signs and instructions of the marina guards for the whole week. We appreciate the help of our members in making one of our biggest fund raisers a successful and enjoyable event. We hope to see all of our members come down and have a good time.

Blue
Claw Crab Festival
August 24, 2014
The 10th Annual
Blue Claw Crab Festival at the Marina 1 waterfront on Riviera
Drive is Sunday August 24 from 11am to 6pm.
This year our musical acts
will include “Still Current”, “Chain Reaction”,
doo-wop group “Stardust” and a steel drum band.
Please park at the MBPOA
Clubhouse located at 31 Neighborhood Road in Mastic Beach and take
the shuttle bus down to the marina. Handicapped parking will be
available at Marina 1 but will be limited. The shuttle bus is being
furnished by Montauk Bus Company.
There
will be vendors, seafood, including crabs, clams, crab cakes, shrimp,
other types of food, beer and raffles.
Volunteer
help is need in the following areas:
- Set Up and Preparation
- Ticket Sales
- Cooking Crabs and Crab cakes
- Clam Shucking
- Serving Food
- Serving Beer, Wine and Soda
- MBPOA Registration Table
- Raffle Table
- Clean Up after the Festival
- Transporting Items back to the Clubhouse.

during the event.

Fund
Raising
The
MBPOA Flag Fund Raiser is still ongoing. The purpose is to help
defer the cost of the flags that we fly outside of our club house and
at the marinas. Also the MBPOA is sponsoring the same girls YUMA
softball team for 6 to 10 year olds as last year. Donations can be
made to any officer, at the club house meetings, by mail to our P.O.
Box address or at the bar on Friday nights. Just make sure you
indicate which fund you are supporting.
Snapper
Derby
The
annual Snapper Derby for Children 5-12 years will be held on
Saturday August 16th at the south end of Marina 1 on
Riviera Drive. Fishing is scheduled from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon. The
Snapper Derby is free and is sponsored by the MBPOA and the Mastic
Beach Yacht Club.
Participants are asked to
bring their own poles (preferably a snapper pole) and are not
permitted to use a reel. Parents can bait hooks, but cannot fish.
Bait will be provided by the MBPOA.
Prizes
will be awarded and hot dogs and soda will be served to the children
by the Mastic Beach Yacht Club after each session. It is always a
fun day for the kids and parents. Sign-in is fifteen minutes before
each session. Do not forget your camera!
