President’s Message

Hello Members,

I hope everyone and their families are doing well. By the time you read this we will be in August and the summer will be half way through. I believe at this point we all find ourselves trying to cram everything we didn’t due in June and July into the rest of the summer.  I believe we should take it one day at a time, and enjoy each day, because when we get to September there will always be something we didn’t get to.
Life at the MBPOA is no different, although we refinished the floor, installed a new door, fenced the clubhouse property, replaced an air conditioner unit, installed a fence at the marina, as well as fixing multiple sink holes at the marina, there are still many things we didn’t get to.
We are currently working on getting surveillance cameras installed at the marina. The cameras will be offered as an option. If the boat owner wishes to be able to view their boat 24 hours a day from their computer or mobile electronic device, they may elect to pay for the service. We plan on having the system running before the end of the season and offered at a steep discount for anyone wishing to try it out. More information will be available in the near future.   We will also be upgrading the cameras at the club house as well as the alarm system.
A rear deck for the club house is in the planning stages, as well as general landscaping and activities for our back yard. The goal is to create a family friendly environment in our back yard to attract younger members and their families.
The Activity committee is currently working on several community activities which you will hear about more in this newsletter or future correspondence. The big event for this month is the Crab Fest on August 27th. Lynne DeBona has been working tirelessly to organize the festival.  Although Lynne has this down to a science, I’m sure she could use all the help she can get. If anyone can help, please contact Lynne or myself by calling the clubhouse and leaving a message. Helping can be by selling raffles, serving food, light cooking, shucking clams or just setting up and breaking down at the end of the day. I look forward to seeing everyone on the 27th.

Thank you,
Frank DeLustro

Marina News and Rules

Please note on the weekend of the Blue Claw Crab Festival the Marina ramp will be closed from 12 AM August 27th until 9 PM.  There is no overnight parking from August 26th until 9 PM August 27th.  Also, there is no day parking on the South side of the ramp Saturday August 26th until Sunday August 27th. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Just as a reminder---please be sure your MBPOA sticker is placed in your car window if you are parking at the Marina.
Boaters, Jet Ski operators, please it’s important to reduce your speed when entering the Marina. We are getting complaints from the boat owners that their boats are being damaged from the excessive wakes.  We have a no wake zone that must be adhered to.  Thanks to John Pastore & John Jr., Jean Pastore, Mike Wettig and Jim Searfoss for launching the NO WAKE ZONE sign at the entrance of the Marina.
Your patience is appreciated while we do some repairs to the bulkhead.  We depend on volunteers to do many chores and repairs at the marina and clubhouse.  Some repairs were done to the west side of the marina bulkhead and estimates are in the works for resurfacing the bulkhead in sections.  This project will not begin until the Fall.  Thank you to Chris Zarcone, Frank DeLustro, Mike Bissonette and Jim Searfoss for their time spent this past weekend reinforcing two sections of the bulkhead. Our Junior members Brayden Wilkinson and Arik Getchell spent several hours filling in the holes with gravel on the east side parking lot.
We always need volunteers to keep the cost down for these projects.  Please call the MBPOA if you are interested in helping.

President’s Message

It appears that the summer of 2017 is taking it’s time getting here, but as we enter July the Marina is in full swing. If you’re still looking to rent a slip please call the clubhouse and speak to Kevin or leave a message.
By the time you read this we would have already installed a fence around the perimeter of the clubhouse property. The fence will allow us to expand our member and community events to include outdoor activities.
Future improvements will include a deck for our members to enjoy, which may also be offered as an option to our hall rentals. Speaking of which, if you are planning to rent the hall please do not hesitate in doing so, the summer dates are filling up fast.   Leave a message at the Clubhouse and Michelle will return your call.
As we look to grow, and add more activities for our members it’s becoming more apparent that we need more volunteers.  If anyone is available we could use help with event planning, the newsletter, light general maintenance (Marina or Clubhouse), or just helping hands for events such as the Night at the Races, Crab Fest, etc..   If you would like to volunteer, leave a message for me at the clubhouse. You can also see me any Friday night at the clubhouse at our weekly meet and greet. I’m usually there around 7:30, but this is your club and you are welcome and encouraged to come at any time. Remember you have a family membership and are allowed to bring a guest.

Thank you and have a safe and fun summer,

Happy & safe 4th of July to all!

Memorial Day Parade Recap

Though the rainy weather hindered this year’s Memorial Day Parade, several MBPOA Officers, Directors and Members participated.  We joined the American Legion in raising and saluted our American Flag at memorial sites throughout Mastic Beach.
Our Director Traci Kelly assisted the Legion with one of their flags throughout the precession.  This year’s float was decorated by the following members; Jen Lucas, Jean SanMartin, Jim Searfoss, Nora Getchell, Nora’s friend Grace, Mike & Catherine Kobasiuk and Joe & Traci Kelly.  An extra thanks to Jen Lucas for the posters she designed and donated for the float.
After stopping at the Legion for hotdogs and soda, we trotted along to the MBPOA to raise our flag, with the help of Arik Getchell, Brayden Wilkinson and John Pastore Jr.   Along the way we continued to Marina One, and raised the flag at the Marina beach.  We then proceeded to Lynne DeBona’s house and dropped the float there to remind people that “some gave all and all gave some” and most important “in Memory of our Past President Bob DeBona, a 21 year Navy Veteran, most loved and missed by all”.

God Bless our Men and Woman in the Armed Services

TRI Hamlet Day Recap

The Tri-Hamlet day was a huge success for the MBPOA and all the members that came and participated. This was the first year we were designated as an official stop on the tour, and we were busy all day.
As we have in the past, we gave free hot dogs, soda and water to the community. The library received a grant to pay for the band that played in our parking lot the entire day.  They were great and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the music.
There were too many volunteers from our group to remember everyone who helped, so I will just say that everyone did a great job making the day a success; from carrying all the tables and chairs in and out to doing the cooking and representing our organization to the public.
Thank you to everyone who helped and to Kevin Collins for coordinating the MBPOA participation with the Tri Hamlet Summit.

Marina News and Rules

Just as a reminder---please be sure your MBPOA sticker is placed in your car window if you are parking at the Marina.
Thank you to Noreen and John Pastore and John Jr. for the donation of the picnic table at the guard shack.
Thank you, also, to Maura Spery, Lynne DeBona and Brayden Wilkinson for planting the flowers at the guard shack and sign.  The salt water is playing hovoc with the two planters at the sign, but with some TLC by Ketty Colbert they should perk up soon. Also, big thank you to our Jr. MBPOA member Arik Getchell and to Traci Kelly for putting up the flags at the Marina and Clubhouse.

June 2017 Newsletter

June 2017 Newsletter

President’s Message

Hello Everyone,

All is well at the MBPOA.  May 13TH the Marina opened for the season. In preparation of the opening, we replaced many missing boards, repaired the electric on the west side, and installed a new fence on the east side.

This month, along with a variety of events which you can read about in detail later in  this newsletter, we plan on installing a fence around the perimeter of the clubhouse property. In doing so, we plan to utilize the property for future outdoor family events.

The Board of Directors along with the Activity Committee are currently looking into events the membership may enjoy. If you wish to get involved with the planning or would like make a suggestion, please call and leave a message at the clubhouse, or e-mail me at the address below.

If event planning is not your thing and you still wish to get involved, we can use your help with other committees that might interest you more.

We also have special events, such as Tri-Hamlet Day, the Crab Festival, Night at the Races, the Halloween Party, Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties. Help is needed with each event.  If your time is limited, then at least come down and enjoy some of these activities or just join us on a Friday night for some fun and cheer.

Thank you and have a Great Summer,

Frank DeLustro

MBPOA Activity Committee

The Activity committee is currently working on a number of events.

On Friday June 2nd we will have out first dance night. The night’s theme will be Latin mix and will be presented by Donna DeSimone. For information about Donna and her work you need only to search for her on line. She is extremely well known throughout long Island’s Preforming Arts community.

We will not be having Music by the Bay this year and will be looking for another activity to replace it, possibly a Family outdoor movie night, at the clubhouse. Information will be forthcoming.

We will also replace this year’s October Night at the Races with a Dinner theater. The show will be an interactive Hillbilly Wedding. This promises to be a fun night, so please join us. Information on the date and tickets will be available within the next few weeks.

The committee is also working on other events such as the LI Ducks Game, Casino bus trips, ice cream social night, Paint night, etc.

If anyone has an interest in helping on the Activity Committee please contact Michelle Wilkinson or Frank Delustro at the clubhouse.  Thank you.
