of Director’s Message
In the new movie The
Hobbit – An Unexpected Journey, the main character, a
homebody named Bilbo leaves home to have an adventure. In the
course of this adventure he makes new friends from faraway places.
We in Mastic Beach have come to understand that sometimes the
adventure comes to you at home and there are plenty of 'new' friends
right next door that you can come to rely on. 2012 was an eventful
year for our community. We had the adventure come to us in the form
of a storm named Sandy. We all learned a little more what we are
capable of and who we can rely on. It is also good to remember that
more than just Sandy happened in 2012. We all had many other
occasions, both good and difficult to live through. The MBPOA is
the same as all the individuals that make it up. Some things went
very well, while some things were fraught with difficulties. And
just like all our neighbors we will be spending the beginning of
2013 getting over 2012's Sandy. There will be repairs needed in
the marinas, and work around the clubhouse to do. But that will not
be the only thing we do in 2013. We will have fun times and
difficult times that have nothing to do with Sandy. We will be able
to do all the work and have all the fun if we have it together. We
have to help each other through our adventure as a cohesive club
with the intention of making our community and our own lives full of
positive meaning and integrity. All of the Directors and Officers of
the MBPOA would like to wish you and yours a Very Happy New Year.
We hope to see you all and have you all participating in our local
adventure.
Christmas
Parade
On December 2, 2012 The MBPOA participated in the 43rd Annual
Mastics and Shirley Chamber Of Commerce
Christmas Parade. Introducing the MBPOA was our very own Scout Troop
#15 carrying our banner and their flags. Behind the marching cub
scouts we had two floats, the Long Island Duck pulling a Sleigh
towed by Dr. Neil Scotti. Following was a MBPOA member truck with an
inflated Santa and Snowman driven by Catherine Kobasiuk. In the tow
truck rode Joe Fazzio the heart of the MBPOA Float Committee and
Cathy Smyth and Ronnie Hart representing your seniors groups. On the
tailgate of the pickup rode Director Frank Delustro and Alan
Chasinov. Also riding in the floats supporting the MBPOA were
Michael and Marina Kobasiuk and Michelle Wilkinson. The Mastics and
Shirley Chamber Of Commerce Christmas Parade Committee awarded the
MBPOA float with a trophy which will be displayed in the club house
for to all see.
Two
weeks previous the float committee, headed by Michael Kobasiuk,
moved the float from the MBPOA sheds to Joe Fazzio's garage. The
week before the parade, the Kobasiuk family and Neil Scotti spent
time at Joe's house updating the decorations and freshening up the
floats. While trying to add air to the floats tires one of the tire
valves broke causing a flat. Over coming their panic, the team
removed the float from the cart and tilted the cart so that the tire
could be removed. Michael took the tire up to Mavis Tire on Montauk
Highway where they replaced the valve for free.
Thank you and Merry Christmas Mavis Tire. The big improvement on
the floats this year was spearheaded by Neil Scotti. He supplied and
installed the rope lights all along the edges of both floats with
the help of Joe Fazzio. Thank you for your time and donations Dr.
Scotti.
Everyone
who participated in the parade had a wonderful time, the weather
this year was beautiful. Next year we hope to have a larger
contingent of MBPOA members marching with us.
A
Very Special Note.....
I would like to extend
my sincere appreciation to the MBPOA Officers, Board of Directors
and Members for their love and support at the unexpected death of my
husband, Bob. I know Bob is sending us his strength to restore our
beautiful waterfront community it was before Hurricane Sandy caused
the devastation of so many homes and the deterioration of the
shoreline.
My best wishes are sent
to all those for a blessed holiday and a safe and healthy New Year.
Sincerely,
Lynne DeBona
December
General Meeting
A
lovely time was had by all at the December General Meeting /
Christmas Party. Holiday music was provided by William Floyd High
School music students. The children were surprised by a visit from
Santa himself. Thank you to all the members who helped make our
annual party a success.

Marina
Update
As

Section # 5 was hit the worst; it will take a great deal of work to
rebuild it. Most of the work can be done by volunteers--it's basic
carpentry and labor. If you feel that you could help it would be
greatly appreciated. We will be putting groups together once the
weather breaks. Please call our office (399-6111) and leave your
name and number and you will be called back.
