November General Meeting

The November 6 General Meeting was the first MBPOA Vendor Night. The guest speaker was Michael Rothbart from SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) https://www.score.org/ . Mr. Rothbart gave an overview of what SCORE can do for small businesses. Then the participating vendors (all of which are supporters of the MBPOA) gave individual summaries of their businesses.

The regular meeting business then followed which included two thank you letters. The first letter was from Fred and Patti Tims thanking everyone at the MBPOA for their friendship and their great going away party. The second letter was a thank you from the St. Jude Food Pantry thanking the MBPOA for all they have donated.

Village Trustee Maura Spery gave a Village of Mastic Beach report reminding everyone of the dates for the next village meetings. The reports for the Halloween Party, Country Dancing, Marinas and Hall Rentals were given also. A report from Good and Welfare informed everyone that Sonny Venneri was going in for surgery. The 50/50 raffle was won by Bruce from Middle Island Accounting (one of the attending vendors and an advertiser in this newsletter).

The meeting then adjourned for coffee and cake and gave the members time to chat with the vendors and discuss their services.

By-Laws Clarification

There have been a number of questions precipitated with the by-laws change which occurred over the summer regarding MBPOA membership. Membership classification according to the by-laws can now be summarized as follows:

  1. Home/Property Owners in the 11951 zip code can be Members. Members have all rights and privileges in the association including the right to vote and run for office.
  2. Everyone else -people who live in 11951 but do not own property and people who live outside the 11951 zip code may be Associate Members. Associate Members have the same rights and privileges as members except they cannot vote or hold an office.
  3. Now with the new rule change – 18-24 year olds living at home with their parents can become Junior Members. Junior Members may join at a reduced rate and have the same privileges as Associate Members and cannot vote or hold an office.
Toys for Tots

The MBPOA has a collection box for Toys for Tots in the front foyer of the clubhouse. Please make a donation of new unwrapped toys when you come visit us before Christmas.

Non-Perishable Food Drive

The MBPOA Food Drive will continue throughout the winter. Please bring non perishable food and personal grooming supplies and put them in the blue box in the foyer. No expired food please.

Clock Fund Drive

The MBPOA is collecting donations for a new wall clock which is needed in the main hall. Donations can be sent to our P.O. Box or put in the collection jar at the clubhouse.

December General Meeting

The December General Meeting will be on December 4. This will be the annual Christmas Party and will be a pot luck. Please bring a covered dish to share. The MBPOA will be providing cake and coffee. There may be a special guest speaker that night. Remember to bring something for the MBPOA Food Drive and Toys for Tots.

Autumn Nite at the Races

The Autumn Night at the Races was held on November 8. As people were arriving a slide show of past MBPOA events and activities was shown on the big screen. Kielbasa and sauerkraut was served along with German potato salad and rye bread. Betting on the horses was brisk and the 50/50 of $300 was won by Carol Gathercole.
Dinner was planned cooked and supervised by Director Bill Hack. An event like this is brought to life by the work of many people who volunteer their time. These people plan, shop, cook, serve, decorate, run the technical aspects and clean up. At the risk of forgetting someone we would like to thank the following people for all their hard work and dedication to the MBPOA. So in no particular order we thank: Bill Hack, Lynne DeBona, Barbara Fitzgerald, Kevin Collins, Frank Delustro, Jean SanMartin, Frank Luisi, Josephine Kramer, Peter Costello, Barbara Collins, Sharon Tanzi, Adam Finger, Tracy Kelly, Ketty Colbert, Jeanine Signorelli, Maureen Getchell, Michelle Wilkinson, Madeline Marullo, Jim Searfoss, Richie Wilkinson, Michael Kobasiuk, Thomas Wilkinson , Nancy Sorkow, Maura Spery, and her sister.
We would also like to thank everyone who attended. It is the support of our members and our neighbors which makes an event like this one fun and worth all the hard work.

Staying in Touch

Financial Secretary Lynne Debona filed this report after visiting relatives and friends in Myrtle Beach South Carolina:

“Former MBPOA Director Fred Tims and his wife Patti send their good wishes to everyone and miss the Friday Night Meet and Greets. They are meeting new people and will be looking for a permanent location in the future.”

Fridays Nights

Friday nights are Meet & Greet at the MBPOA Clubhouse Bar. Members and their guests are invited to stop by for a drink (alcoholic or not) and a chat. Nights that are not Country Dancing nights sometimes become karaoke nights. Bring something for the new MBPOA Food Drive and Toys for Tots.

Hall Rental News

Marina News

The Marina's are now closed. The poles were winterized in Marina #1 on November 16. We were very lucky with dry and still weather. The poles in Marina #5 was winterized on November 20. The weather was dry but much colder.

We would like to thank former Director Robert Muse for supervising the pole covering and his crew of young men: John Springman, James Zeman, James Maltese, Ryan Panter and George Ottinger. We also thank Vice President Michael Kobasiuk for helping out and arranging to have all the barges in place beforehand. We thank Captain Les Trafford of Seatow ( see our advertisers) for towing one barge from Marina #5 to Marina #1. Luck was with us and no one ended up taking a November swim this year.
