Our guest speaker at the September 4 General Meeting was Kevin McAllister. Kevin is a local boy who grew up in Center Moriches. Kevin gave a n interesting presentation on his new group Defend H2O. He explained the importance of clean water both salt and fresh and how our behavior effects water quality.
We continued with the business portion of the meeting which included the following proposal:
Director Michelle Wilkinson read her proposed by-laws change for the third time:
Currently reads:

Blue Claw Crab Festival

Our 10th Annual Blue Claw Crab Festival was a tremendous success and the beautiful weather could not have been better. Much planning took place since the beginning of the year and with the coordination of the MBPOA Officers and Directors and all the volunteers the event went off without a hitch.
We have many people to thank, but at the risk of leaving someone out, we are extending our appreciation and sincere thanks to everyone who helped with setting up the event site, did traffic control, and sold tickets. Thanks to the people who cooked the seafood, cooked the food for the volunteers, and served the food, beer and other beverages. Thanks to the clam shuckers, corn shuckers and musical entertainment announcer. Thank you also to the people who sold raffles and merchandise and to the clean up crew who worked hours after the event.

Special thanks to:
  • Terrie Cicerelli who since the First Crab Festival has done a great job coordinating the unique variety of vendors
  • Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning for the Grant towards the advertising and entertainment
  • Colonial Youth and Family Service volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the day keeping the area free of litter
  • Grand Am Recreational Vehicles for the loan of a trailer used as our office base
  • Mastic Seafood for supplying all the seafood and for the loan of their refrigeration truck
  • Ice Cream Cottage for the tremendous amount of ice donated
  • Bay Gas for their donation of the propane tanks
  • Montauk Bus for providing the shuttle bus
  • The Town of Brookhaven for the refuse receptacles
  • The Village of Mastic Beach Mayor for the use of the barricades and the park area fill
  • The Village of Mastic Beach for the Code Enforcement Officers and to the Fire Marshall for his cooperation and guidance

Over the years we have made improvements in different areas and hope everyone enjoyed themselves this year.

We look forward to seeing you all at our 2015 Festival next August. - Lynne DeBona , Blue Claw Crab Fest Chairperson
