President's
Corner
I’d
like to take a moment to recap the past month or so. Both December
and January were busy months. I’d like to thank everyone that
helped with decorating the Hall, the Christmas Party and New Year’s
Eve gathering, as well as those that helped organize Councilman Dan
Panico’s visit on December 7th
and Supervisor Ed Romaine’s visit on January 5th.
The
Christmas party and New Year’s
Eve gathering brought many members and their guests. Not only did people bring food, but the Club supplied hero’s and hot dishes for both events. Needless to say, there was plenty of food and good times for all. Remember us next year, we’ll be there.

Both
the Supervisor and the Councilman addressed a packed room of
residents with concerns about the Village dissolution. At both
meetings, the resident’s minds were put at ease as both TOB
Officials spoke of their plans for our community. A typical
response from residents that attended was, “it was a great meeting
and very informative”. I thank both the Supervisor and Councilman
for addressing our members as well as the Community. We look forward
to future meetings with them as well as other leaders of Brookhaven
Town.
It’s
now time for the MBPOA to start preparing for Spring and Summer, and
all the events associated with these seasons.

MBPOA
Projects
We,
also, need to start work on the hall and marina, for the hall rental
and boating seasons. The hard wood flooring needs refinishing and
repair in the Hall, which we hope to contract out and get done by the
end of April.
Marina repairs, along with the normal repairing of the electric, and broken water lines, will be part of the improvements this year. A fence along the southeast section of the marina, new picnic tables, board walk repairs, and bulkhead resurfacing are some items on our wish list.
As
we always look for volunteers to save the club money and to keep our
costs down, I realize that some of these projects are too large to
handle with volunteers, so we will begin the process of finding
companies to do these repairs. I would like to support our own,
therefore encourage our members that own businesses to contact Kevin
Collins or myself, at 631-399-6111, to submit a quote.
Marina
News & Membership
The
Marina closing went well, except for the abandoned boat, which was
just removed. The owner was fined for the unauthorized use of the
Marina. Membership
& boat slip applications were mailed in December. Please
complete all sections of your application and return it by February
15th
to secure your slip. If you haven't received one, please call the
office at 631-399-6111 for you a copy. The Marina will open April
15th,
only if all the
pole covers have been removed. There will be no services, including
security, until May 15th.
Some
of you have noticed the section for stick docks is missing from this
year’s application. The MBPOA has turned over the control of the
docks to the Village, as was agreed to in the settlement. Any
questions regarding the docks please call the Village. Please be
aware that the MBPOA negotiated that current stick dock renters will
have first preference to their dock.
In
closing, I have created an e-mail account where anyone can contact me
with any club issues, complaints, questions, or ideas. Please do not
use it for normal club activities such as hall rentals or slip
rentals, unless there is a problem. The address is:
mbpoapresident@optonline.net
Thanks
to all and be well,
Frank
