President's Corner
At this point I’m sure everyone knows that Mastic Beach is entering a critical time in its history. The wheels are turning to initiate a smooth transition of leadership back to the Town of Brookhaven.During the dissolution movement the MBPOA board decided that as an organization the MBPOA would remain neutral. The MBPOA has people in our organization on both sides of the issue, both with different ways of achieving their goals, and all with the best intentions for Mastic Beach. It is now time for all of us to come together for a better Mastic Beach.
The Board and I look forward to working with the Village Board, the Town of Brookhaven, and all of the residents to make our community a place that we can all be proud of. We at the MBPOA will do our best to keep you informed of all upcoming events involving the transition to Brookhaven as well as community and club activities, just as we did with Councilman Panico’s visit to the MBPOA on December 7th. Councilman Panico accepted our invitation to speak to our members as well as the people of Mastic Beach, without hesitation. I asked the Councilman what he was willing and able to
talk about; surprisingly to me, his answer was everything and anything. The Councilman did just that. He came with a map of Mastic Beach and as he scanned the map he explained his thoughts on what he would like to see for each section. He spoke about Violets Cove, sewers, the beaches, Cranberry dock, Blighted homes, buy out programs, while answering questions as he went.
It was refreshing to hear his plans and see the energy he has for revitalizing our community. On another note, I recently attended two local meetings; the first was about the new Library, and the other about the new Mastic Beach Ambulance building. It was disheartening to see how few people came to these two meetings. The Ambulance meeting had approximately thirty people in attendance; fifteen of which were presenters, their staff and Ambulance personnel. The remainder of approx. fifteen people were residents that actually showed up to ask questions.
As a community we need to come together, get involved and show that we care about our community. Although the attendance at these meetings did not show a united front, I still remain hopeful, that in time, all in the community can work together to make Mastic Beach all that it can be.

December General Meeting
The December General Meeting was on Friday, December 2nd and our decision to change the day from our usual Thursday night meeting to Friday this year brought out many more members and their children.
The surprise guest was Santa Claus who brought his jolly, dancing elves this year. Mrs. Claus was busy at the North Pole and couldn't make it , but is looking forward to seeing us all next year. The kids were thrilled to see him and were equally excited to receive a gift he brought for each one.
While the MBPOA provided some of the food for the buffet, many of the Members brought their specialty dishes and food and soft drinks were plentiful and enjoyed by all.
Thank you to everyone who helped decorate the week before, and to those who brought food to share, and to those who served and cleaned up. It was a fun night for all.

Food Drive
Many residents in our community could use a little help with food this season. St. Jude's Outreach is a wonderful program and will accept distribute these items to our residents.
Please feel free to make your donation by leaving them in the collection bin located inside the front entrance of the MBPOA building.
Please keep in mind, we will collect food items throughout the year at our location.
New Years Eve
Please join us in bringing in 2017. The Clubhouse will be open New Year's Eve at 8 PM for members and their guests. Feel free to bring a covered dish, snacks, dessert, etc. Cash bar will be open. Marina News & Membership Applications
The marina was closed on Sunday November 15 and pole covers are now in place. We look forward to the 2017 season.
Membership applications were mailed mid December. Please fill out all sections completely so that we can up date our records. If you haven't received one by the New Year, please call in a request after New Years Day for the paperwork. Thank you.
Recap of Nite at the Races
The Annual Fall Nite at the Races was Nov 12th with just short of one hundred people in attendance. The MBPOA served a roast chicken dinner and all the trimmings.
The Officers and Directors thank everyone who came to support the MBPOA at this important yearly event. We also thank all our volunteers who make it possible to have an event such as this: Frank & Terry DeLustro, Lynne DeBona, Jean San Martin, James Searfoss, Rich Wilkinson, Michael & Catherine Kobasiuk, Marina Kobasiuk, Willie Torres, Mike(Hippie)Witteg, Kevin Collins, Madeline Murillo& Lucy Korzeniowski.
Special thanks to Gwen & Joe Fazzina for once again selling the most admission tickets.
Our next Nite at the Races will be on March 11, 2017. Corned beef & cabbage and all the trimmings will be served.
We ask for forgiveness for anyone we may have missed and thank them for their help.
January 5, 2017 General Meeting
Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine has accepted our invitation to be the guest speaker at our General Meeting on January 5th at 7:30 pm.
Supervisor Romaine will discuss programs in the Town and will address the dissolution process.
Members and guests are invited to participate.
Refreshments will be served.
Country Line Dancing
The third Friday of each month at 7:30 pm dedicated group of dancers meet and enjoy some instruction and a night of dancing. So come on down and join in the fun and get some exercise to boot.
Members fee is $8 and guests are $10. Coffee and cake is served.
Passing of Joe Fazio
It's with great sadness that we have lost a very devoted member, friend and Gold Card member of the MBPOA.
Joe and his wife Ann were staples in the Club for many years and participated in all the Club activities. When Ann passed, Joe continued with Club functions, but his true joy was decorating the MBPOA float, which he built for the Holiday parade each year. Joe was our “Grand Marshall” and loved being part of the festivities.
Joe was an avid gardener, and was know for his massive fig tree and the delicious tomatoes that so many of us enjoyed. Along with his green thumb, he enjoyed entertaining the MBPOA members and the Senior Group he belonged to, by playing the piano before each meeting.
Donations in memory of Joe can be made to St. Jude's Outreach Program.
Joe will be very much missed.
Remembering Arline Large
Arline was a long time Gold Card member of the MBPOA and passed away this year. Arline grew up in Mastic Beach and she and her husband, also, raised their children here.
She fondly talked about the wonderful times she had crabbing and fishing at Marina 1 (known then to many, as the lagoon).
She was a devoted member of the MBPOA and even while living with her daughter upstate the last year of her life, she came back for the Annual Night at the
Races Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner.
Arline was someone that could be counted on to help at every function.
Arline's daughter Gwen & son-in-law Joe, have followed in her footsteps and are devoted MBPOA supporters.
Arline is very much missed.
Friday Night at the MBPOA
Friday night at the MBPOA (except the third Friday) we consider it to be our “meet & greet” night and welcome our Members and their guests to join their fellow members.
Several of the members have enjoyed playing cards and many just enjoy having conversation.
Please feel free to join us. The bar is open and some refreshments are available. Bar prices are reasonable @ $3.00 for members and $4.00 for guests, so come on down and enjoy the music, card game, darts or bring a game you enjoy playing, or just enjoy an evening of conversation.
