June 2014 Newsletter

Editor: Catherine D. Kobasiuk Assistant: Marina Kobasiuk

May General Meeting
At the May 1 General Meeting there were event reports given on; Family Video Game Night on April 25 which went very well, all the attendees had a great time; the Art Auction on April 13 raised $1,400 for Suffolk Hospice. There was a report from Village Trustee Maura Spery on what she has been doing and her upcoming trip to the Town of Brookhaven about the old Associated Property. Vic Viola reminded everyone that you must have the original boat registration on your boat not a copy. The 50/50 of $15 was won by Sonny Vineri which he then donated back to the Flag Fund. (THANK YOU SONNY!)
At a little after 8pm our guest speaker arrived. Judge Stephen Ukeiley. Judge Ukeily is a District Court Judge. His discussion of the district court system and law in general was extremely stimulating. Judge Ukeiley donated a copy of his book on landlord and tenant relations to the MBPOA and was very generous with his time after the meeting. We hope to have him return some time in the future.

Cleanup Day Report
The MBPOA once again participated in the Community Spring Clean-up on Saturday, May 17. Several years ago, MBPOA Member and Master Gardener, Rich Berkhout designed and landscaped around the MBPOA sign on Havenwood Drive giving it a much more impressive look leading to our Downtown area. Several members turned out for the clean-up and weeded, raked leaves, picked up trash around the sign and continued picking up debris around the waterfront and neighboring streets.

Thank you to all who volunteered their time in cleaning up our community and our thanks to the Village for picking up all the bags and loose trash gathered that day.

ean SanMartin, Michelle Wilkinson and Lynne Debona

Marina News
The Marinas are open. The problem with the water at Marina 5 has been fixed, thanks to Vice President Michael Kobasiuk and Director Chris Zarcone. Boat owners please remember that there are no structures put on the walks or bulkheads except for previously approved catwalks and ladders.
If your boat is near a planter feel free to plant flowers or herbs. Remember to plant something the deer do not like to eat.

Please remember that the marina's are carry in – carry out facilities and no garbage should be left behind. Please do not filet fish or dump leftover bait at or in the marinas and remind your friends and neighbors to pickup after their dogs.

US Coast Guard Auxiliary Boat Inspections

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will be preforming free voluntary boat safety inspections at our marinas on June 14. If you are missing safety equipment they will tell you without writing you a summons. If you have all your safety equipment they will give you a notice saying such which will expedite any inspections the Coast Guard performs while at sea. They usually go to Marina #5 in the morning and Marina #1 in the afternoon.

Blue Claw Crab Festival
August 24, 2014
Plans are well underway for our 10th Annual Blue Claw Crab Festival at Marina 1 waterfront on Riviera Drive. Contracts have gone out to previous vendors but we are always looking for new and exciting exhibits.

If you would like to participate as a vendor, please contact Terrie Cicerelli at 281-2231. If you would like to help during any part of the day or want more information, please call the MBPOA office at 399-6111.

We are also looking for a travel trailer or motor home to be used as our central location, strictly used as our office with only our limited staff having access to it during the day of the event. If anyone has one that they can transport to the waterfront that day and remove it after the event, we would greatly appreciate your help. Please call Lynne at 395-5432 for more particulars.

We hope to see you all at our events and other events in the community

Also the MBPOA is sponsoring the same girls YUMA softball team for 6 to 10 year olds as last year. Donations can be made to any officer, at the club house meetings, by mail to our P.O.
